Position Summary:

Ashland University (www.ashland.edu) invites applications for a full-time Financial Analyst ("Analyst"). This position is responsible for monitoring the University's financial performance against the budget and other measurements, analyzing business performance and market conditions to create forecasts, and assisting the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and Controller in recommending tactical and strategic decisions by providing periodic reports. The Analyst will be responsible for modelling revenue and expenses, trend and variance analysis, data mining, and develop financial scorecards and dashboards.

Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collects and analyzes current and past financial data, performs variance analysis including key metrics, identifies trends and creates reports to support leadership decisions.
  • Assists with the evaluation of financial performance by comparing and analyzing actual results with budgets and other measurements, investigates variances, and presents the results.
  • Spearheads the annual, quarterly and monthly financial modeling and forecasting.
  • Collaborates with the Business Office leadership in modeling revenue and expenses for academic and non-academic programs and the various responsibility center units.
  • Recommends annual academic and non-academic program gross profit margins and administrative overhead allocations.
  • Collaborates with the Business Office leadership to identify and drive process improvements, including the creation of standard and ad-hoc reports, operational processes and internal controls, tools, and scorecards and dashboards.
  • Serves on various University committees and task forces as required.
  • Ability to work after hours and weekends as needed.
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and Controller.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required in Accounting or Finance is required. Master's degree in Business Administration preferred.
  • 3+ years of business finance or other relevant experience required.
  • 3 - 5 years experience in the higher education industry is preferred.
  • High proficiency with financial analysis and modeling.
  • Strong fluency with Excel formulas and functions and familiarity with data query/ data management tools.
  • Knowledge of the Ellucian Colleague ERP system preferred.
  • Attention to accuracy and detail is required.
  • Strong quantitative, problem-solving, analytical, and financial modeling skills including complex financial reports for forecasting, trend and financial and cost analysis results and synthesis of findings.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and business acumen.
  • Ability to multitask and meet constant deadlines.
