Job Summary

USC Information Sciences Institute is seeking a team player with solid analytical and interpersonal skills to join the ISI Business Office team.  A Financial Reporting Project Manager who is proactive, detail-oriented and able work in a fast pace environment.

The Financial Reporting Project Manager will interface with ISI Principal Investigators and ISI Business Office staff to manage complex financial reporting and analyses associated with pre and post-award research administration of sponsored research awards.

Provides research management support for all phases of the award lifecycle including forecast, budgeting, financial consulting and reporting requirements.  Prepares and submits interim financial reports, assists with sub-recipient arrangements, monitoring and with award closeouts.

Job Accountabilities

• Plans, designs and develops complex financial forecast and budgeting of short and long-term plans to ensure sponsored projects stay on target and comply with the applicable government requirements. Arranges monthly financial meetings with Principal Investigators and/or management to review financial summaries and coordinate action items.

• Produces complex financial and labor planning reports. Evaluates and analyzes a variety of complex financial reports and data. Ensures accuracy of financial data submitted. Reconciles financial data from multiple sources and make correcting adjustments. Develops forecasts, projections and recommend strategies. Develops conclusions and recommendations and communicates orally or in writing.

• Directs the delivery of financial reporting services. Sets and communicates priorities and performance standards and assesses operations using these criteria. Provides for quality assurance reviews and addresses areas in need of attention.

• Provides internal financial consulting services and advices on complex financial issues. Serves as key resource on financial projects. Interfaces with faculty and/or staff necessary to complete assignments.Resolves problems or questions referred by project staff or administrators.

• Directs the dissemination, interpretation and application of financial or administrative policies and procedures. Interprets applicable laws, rules and regulations, as well as university financial policies and procedures.  Advises on specific agency requirements and university guidelines to assist Principal Investigators with the administration and allowability of project expenditure.

• Liaison with all financial and sponsored research departments within the university such as Sponsored Projects Accounting, Department of Contracts and Grants, Office of Financial Analysis etc.  Assists with the resolution of any issues that may arise on existing, continuing and/or expiring awards.  Collaborates with USC departments to explore alternative solutions to problems.

• Represents the department and/or university as an authority in field. Responds to requests for information, advice or assistance from colleagues, professional or industry associations, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related area

Experience and Skills: 7 years of related work experience.

• Directly related experience in a university environment with knowledge of university systems, policies and procedures preferred.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and applicable CFR government requirements
• Ability to interpret university policies and applicable federal regulations and provide financial consulting and guidance
• Demonstrated analytical capability in financial analysis, planning and reporting with knowledge of computer simulation and forecasting techniques
• Advance proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat
• Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, time management, organization and project management skills
• Must be able to anticipate potential issues and be proactive in formulating and implementing the solutions. Strong problem solving skills, including ability to research, organize and analyze information.
• Must exercise a high level of confidentiality and discretion. A results oriented focus with demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage time sensitive issues and meet strict deadlines
