DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for Director of Budget Services and Financial Planning will provide leadership to the District by making fiscally sound decisions and bringing the best public financial planning practices to the District.

This individual will be an executive-level professional with public school fiscal experience, possessing a strong financial technical background. A comprehensive understanding of budgetary cycles and experience in planning, directing, and coordinating the budget activities of a large, multi-billion dollar public or private organization is essential.

It is vital that the ideal candidate has a strong analytic background and the professional financial planning experience necessary to evaluate the District's long- and short-term financial planning options and decisions. The candidate should also have the orientation and experience to develop, recommend, and implement budget solution strategies and key initiatives.

 

The ideal candidate will need to navigate through a complex organizational landscape with finesse and confidence.

As Director of Budget Services, this individual will interact internally with Board of Education members and staff, the Superintendent, and other senior staff on budgetary issues. The candidate must have strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, as well as organizational savvy.

This person will be a decisive and resilient leader, capable of effectively communicating and explaining complex budget and fiscal issues to a variety of stakeholder groups.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Some typical duties include:

  • Preparation, administration, and control of the annual General Fund budget and all special fund budgets, and preparation of all student enrollment and attendance reports required by the State.
  • Interpreting the District budget and providing financial support to individuals, government and business organizations, professional groups, and the public.
  • Directing and participating in financial and procedural analysis of legislative and collective bargaining proposals and providing data for District representatives.
  • Participation at the executive level in the development and implementation of internal Division policies, procedures, and planning.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:
Graduation from a recognized college or university, including or supplemented by courses in finance, accounting, auditing, school business administration, public administration, school finance, governmental accounting, or economics.

Experience:
Three (3) years of experience in executive or management positions with financial management responsibilities for a school district with multiple business functions, or an organization or firm with at least 1,000 employees.
